Composer Labfest 4: Writing for Mallet Quartet

The Coley Marimba Artist Practicum is held in tandem with Composer LabFest 4. Performers and composers will be collaborating for world premieres guided by co-directors Matthew Coley & Jenni Brandon, and HM Artists.

CLF4 is held in-person from July 20-25, 2026 (With introductory virtual sessions in April-June.)

Tuition:

$850 (includes non-refundable $75 registration fee) to attend either CLF4 or CAP

$1300 (includes non-refundable $75 registration fee) to attend both CLF4 & CAP in a joint track of performer and composer

– Self-paced payment plan: Registration fee is due between Jan 19 & April 15  | Half of tuition is due: May 1 | Final tuition payment is due: June 15
– Housing Policy - Housing is the responsibility of the participant. However, HM will make suggestions to find options for housing including AirBnB, homestays, hotels, etc.
– Scholarships: There is a limited number of scholarships available to students on a first-come, first-served basis.

Registration will open on January 19, 2025 and closes April 15 for CLF4.

A week-long intensive workshop & festival for composers at the college level and above featuring:

  • Nuts & Bolts virtual sessions on writing for Marimba/Vibraphone (April/May)
  • Group & Private Composition Sessions
  • Workshop and rehearsals of new composition with performers
  • ‍Workshops on the business of music and more
  • World premiere of new work inspired by artwork at Waterloo Center for the Arts
  • ‍Writing ​practice etudes based on stories inspired by Iowa for performance during community event
