Interviews with some of the leading marimba artist-teachers from the 20th century. Topics include opinions on teaching, performing, how and what to practice, taking competitive auditions, repertoire selection, health and more. This book includes what students learned from early teachers including Musser, Bethancourt and Hiroaka. A follow up book, with more artists, is in progress. Interviews were conducted by Greg Giannascoli with a foreword written by William Moersch.
Based in Chicago, Nathaniel has been featured as a solo and collaborative artist with many groups in the area. Aside from his large ensemble experience, Nathaniel is also a rostered member of the Heartland Marimba Ensemble. He has placed in multiple competitions, premiered multiple new solo and ensemble works, and is an active music teacher. You can find him teaching at Neuqua Valley High School, Oswego East High School, Bolingbrook High School, and Murphy Junior High. Nathaniel holds a BM in percussion performance from Wheaton College (IL) a Master of Music from The Boston Conservatory at Berklee.
